Orlando mass shooting could impact Florida tourism

The success of the £22 million Lincoln Castle Revealed Project will be a massive building platform to sell the county as a tourist destination to the Americans.

A 'beefed up' approach to tourism development has been agreed by the county council's economic scrutiny committee.

Justin Brown, the county's commissioner for economic growth, introduced a report on a review of the tourism profile - and how it can be raised.

He told the committee that the opening of Lincoln Castle Revealed in April 2015 and the good publicity received as a result of that work, had followed the Lincoln Magna Carta's 'tour' of the USA in 2014 before it returned to its new 'home' in the castle vault.

Councillors unanimously backed the report, which urged the county to promote its 'wow factor' online.

Strengthening the role of the Visit Lincolnshire website www.visitlincolnshire.com, more vigorous support for the private hotel sector and more overall tourism promotion was agreed.

They backed a decision to improve tourism promotion by fully exploiting all events, tourist attractions and areas of interest.

Former Lincolnshire tourism media manager Mark Hibbert, now a a PR consultant who promotes tourism in both Lincolnshire and the USA, will work the press room at the World Travel Market later this year.

He will be at the Excel in London on November 7 to promote the county's top attractions particularly to American media.
